Mary and George Kirkpatrick Hildreth were married on July 31, 1892, in Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas. George was born on January 20, 1857. They had five children together.
1. Bernice Henrietta Hildreth
2. Beulah Mae Hildreth
3. Anna Mary Hildreth
4. Nettie Leona Hildreth
5. George Lawrence Hildreth
Tragically, their third child, Anna Mary Hildreth, succumbed to scarlet fever at the tender age of twelve.
Mary was not only a nurturing mother but also a remarkable woman known for her incredible sewing skills. Over the years, she and her husband, George, found community and fellowship at the Burr Oak Church of the Brethren in Kansas. In 1918, seeking new opportunities, they made the move to Marshalltown, Iowa, where George opened his very own butcher shop. Legend has it that he also had a pickle barrel that sparked some curious investigations among the townsfolk!
Mary was only fifty-one when her husband George died on April 29, 1922. He was sixty-five years old. George is laid to rest in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Mary died ten years later, on November 1, 1932. She is buried in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mary was just shy of her sixty-first birthday when she died.
