John Edward married Emma W. Ronk on September 28, 1890. Emma was born on June 29, 1869. They had nine children together. Despite the heart-wrenching loss of their daughter, Alice Catherine, at the tender age of thirteen, and their son, Merle Ray, who passed away as an infant at barely three weeks old, the Kinzie family remained strong and united.

John Edward was a steadfast pillar of support in his community, always ready to lend a hand to his neighbors, especially when it came to the labor-intensive task of threshing. Meanwhile, his wife, Emma (Ronk) Kinzie, found solace in her rocking chair, often settling into it with her leg tucked underneath her. This position inevitably led to a slight tilt of the chair, causing it to become crooked.
The family’s home seemed perpetually open to the world, with no screens on the windows to shield against the outside elements. Visitors, especially the cousins, often remarked on the persistent flurry of flies that buzzed around the rooms.
John Edward preceded his wife in death and passed away on May 17, 1929. Emma died on June 27, 1960.
There are limited photos of John Edward and no images of his wife, Emma. If anyone in Kinzie's family has such pictures, please message us!
